“It’s still, for the most part, the cost of living crisis that’s having a huge impact on the numbers of dogs ending up in these kind of rescue centres,” Nick began by explaining.

He continued: “But, in the case of the RSPCA, they’ve had a huge number of calls over the summer from the public reporting incidents of cruelty and neglect as well.

“They’ve been taking in so many dogs that they’re actually spending hundreds of thousands of pounds just getting extra kennel space, and private boarding space for dogs. They’re pretty much full here, but there are more dogs coming in today.”

Nick proceeded to chat to a RSPCA worker at the Aylesbury branch about the amount of dogs the organisation is receiving, while the camera panned around the kennels to show the severity of the situation.

Before the Dallas Cowboys took the field on Sunday to take on the New York Giants, the organization was one of many teams that held a moment of silence in honor of Kirk.

Kirk, a conservative activist and Trump ally, was tragically shot and killed after a single bullet struck his neck while holding an event at Utah Valley University. The event was the first stop on Kirk’s “American Comeback Tour.”

Days later, the FBI announced the arrest of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson from Utah in connection with the “politically motivated assassination.” President Donald Trump made that announcement himself while revealing that Robinson’s father turned him in.

The Associated Press reported that Robinson’s father “saw surveillance photos and worked with a pastor to encourage surrender in Kirk’s killing.”

The Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, and Dallas Cowboys held moments of silence in honor of Christian Kirk, but not every team joined in.

Many fans remained quiet while the fan base of the Saints reportedly booed during the moment of silence.

All put Kirk’s photo on their video boards and asked the home crowd to stand and pay respects in the wake of Kirk’s shooting last Wednesday.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk would later report that four NFL games did not honor Kirk before their Week 2 games:

Anna slowly raised her gaze—not at her daughter-in-law, but at her son. Dima tensed up. The hand holding his steak knife froze mid-air.

He opened his mouth to respond, but caught the barely perceptible shake of his mother’s head. Don’t. Not yet.

“Thanks for the concern, Kristina,” Anna replied, her voice perfectly calm and composed. “My pension is more than enough.”

“Right, of course it is,” Kristina smirked and sipped her wine. “Enough for that thrift store blouse and an occasional visit to us by economy-class taxi. Don’t take it the wrong way—I’m not judging. Just stating facts.”

She said it with a casual, almost friendly smile, which only made the words more venomous.

Six months.

Just six months ago, Kristina had looked at Anna with admiration, called her “Mama Anya,” and swore money meant nothing to her—only love and family mattered.

The experiment Anna had set up now felt less like a quirky test and more like a cruel necessity.

“Anna Viktorovna,” Dima said, using the formal address for the first time, “I’ve brought the reports you requested. Marketing department, last quarter.”

He placed a heavy folder on the desk.

Anna nodded, not breaking her gaze from Kristina.

“Thank you, Dima. Kristina, yesterday at dinner you mentioned our ‘new leadership’ were old fossils.”
